These pieces began as Planet Pieces. They consist of many layers of paint on heavy rag paper which has been strengthened with gesso. I apply a good deal of action to the paper as I add paint, encouraging the flow of materials by adding water, scraping surfaces, overlaying elements found nearby, lifting and imprinting color and textures as I respond to the motion of the world around me. The paper is then torn into pieces, reassembled and suspended inside the frame.
